License/ID Renewal
Has your address changed? If so, you need to change your address before renewing online!
If you received a license renewal form in the mail, it will indicate whether you are eligible to renew online.
If you don't have the form, that's okay. When you go through the process, you will be notified if there is a reason you need to renew in person at a Licensing Center.
You will need the following items to start the License Renewal process:
- A valid Drivers License Number
- A valid Social Security Number
- Access to a printer (needed if you want to print an interim license and/or a receipt)
- A valid email address
- A valid credit card*
* Online payments are processed through Tyler Payments Services which includes a service fee, not shared with the State of New Jersey, solely dedicated to developing, maintaining, and expanding the State's electronic services.
Once you have completed the process your license renewal is effective immediately. The Motor Vehicle Commission will mail your renewed document(s) to the mailing address we have on file. Print and carry the interim license with you along with your current license until your new license arrives in the mail, in about 10-20 business days.
If the mailing address on your license has changed, you MUST update your address BEFORE renewing your license.
